
The London Sydney Marathon is the biggest of all long-distance Rallies. The Marathon took place the first time in 1968
and also in the year 2000 it partly was on the origin route.
Start was on 03. June 2000 in London/GB. After that it went in 34 days through 3 continents and 15 countries.
The selected 100 participants had to pass more than 10,000 miles.By the way the 100 places in the starter field
were given away after 6 weeks, so much liked is the Rally.
The Rally was driven in 3 big stages:
The european stage lasted 14 days and passed the following countries: England, France, Germany,
Czech Republic, Slowakia, Austria, Hungary, Romania and Greece.
After that through the Turkey. From there the cars were brought to Thai in Antonov-transport-planes.
Then it went through Malaysia.
The last 8 days were in Australia, where drivers and cars had to give all again.
Everything from snowy mountains to desert with more than 40° Celsius!
At the start have been 3 Ford Capri Perana V8 and the Rally became a total triumph, although
John Lamb (AUS) and Uri Scelwyn (AUS)/start number 59 had to give up at the 8th day,
but it was not a defect at the car.
In the team championship the "Old Block" with Stig Blomqvist(S)/ Ben Rainsford(AUS) on Perana,
Richard Martin-Hurst(GB)/ Tony Devantier(NZ) on Perana and Stewart Lamb/ Cameron Wearing on
Ford Falcon made the 3rd place.
In class D Richard Martin-Hurst/ Tony Devantier (start number 16) made the 3rd place and Stig Blomqvist/
Ben Rainsford (number 3) were able to win the class!
