The first Gunston Capri Perana was build in 1970 by Basil Green. The name of the car was Z181, not B181 like on the picture. Due to rule changes a new car had to been build for 1971, the A2.
Cylinder heads, crankshaft, rods and engine block had to stay original and suspension mounting points were not allowed to move. Allowed were fender spreads of 2 inches. Better brakes were allowed and Basil Green took those of the Ford GT 40. The single springs in the rear were bend to the middle to make 14.5 inch rims possible.
From 1971 to 1973 Bob Olthoff, Koos Swanepoel and Basil Van Royen drove the Perana and won nearly every important race in South Africa. The car one time won the Star Production Saloon Car Championship and got second another year.
After that the Gunston was sold. But it stayed a winner and won races in Rhodesia til 1975.
1994 Nick Sheward bought the Gunston and restored it absolutely genuine.
The other Gunston is still alive, too, and I try to trace it.
